Helpful AI is easy to ship. A durable lab record is not.
Everyone has seen the tempting path. The assistant drafts a status note. It suggests three tasks. It names a next experiment. Someone pastes the output into the shared doc because the meeting is in four minutes. Two weeks later a new student treats that paste as decided science. Nobody can say who approved it, or which paper it rested on.
The miss is not fluency. The miss is the missing gate.
Propose is not the same as write
In a lab, drafting and recording are different jobs.
Drafting can be fast, exploratory, and wrong in useful ways. Recording is slower on purpose. The durable record is what group meeting trusts, what a collaborator inherits, and what you reopen months later when the story has to hold.
If those two jobs collapse into one auto-write, you get quiet corruption: confident text that looks official because it sits where official things sit.
ResearcherFlow keeps them apart. Flow can propose notes, tasks, and changes. Those proposals stay proposals until a human says yes. Nothing lands in the durable record by accident.
The gate is the product
Teams often treat review as a footnote: "of course someone will check it." That sentence is doing the real work. Without a named checkpoint, the assistant becomes a queue of half-trusted drafts, or worse, a silent writer into the system of record.
A useful gate is narrow and concrete:
- What counts as a write (saving a note, creating a task, marking a next experiment as decided).
- Who may approve (a named owner, not "whoever is free").
- What the reviewer sees (the proposal, the sources, and enough reasoning to decide quickly).
- What happens on no, and on silence (revise, refuse, or wait with an owner, not forever).
That is not theater. It is how the system stays shippable after the demo.
Literature in. Next experiment out. You approve.
The wedge is literal.
Import the set. Ask for a draft. Inspect sources. Follow the reasoning behind an answer. Let Flow propose the next step. Then approve before that step becomes the lab's record.
Helpful AI. Human judgment. The approval is not a delay bolted on at the end. It is the boundary that makes the assistant safe to use on real work.
How we ship that stance today
ResearcherFlow's analysis engine today is Claude Opus 5.5 through OpenRouter. We may add other strong research models later. We are not announcing other engines as live here.
You can try a paper with the free DOI summarizer. Workspaces are Free, $29 Researcher, or $99 Team. Flow proposes. You approve.
